Costumer’s Guild West 2014 Annual Meeting and Fashion Show

CGW Event: 2014 Annual Meeting and Fashion Show
Saturday, October 4, 2014, Doors open at noon for a 12:30 start
Location: Fullerton College, Bronwyn Dodson Theater, 321 E Chapman Ave, Fullerton, CA 92832

Tickets: Free! It is important that each person attending acquire a ticket, so that we may have the correct amount of food and ballots. Tickets are available now! Please get your ticket before the end of the day on October 1, so that we may have a headcount for food and get you parking passes.

Parking: Parking is available in the Fullerton parking structure on Lemon and Fullerton College Drive. You will be emailed a parking pass to print and bring with you once you obtain your free ticket to the meeting. Some street parking is available, but please be sure to follow all parking signs and regulations.

Who is welcome: All CGW members and anyone interested in CGW.

A light lunch consisting of Greek food and other snacks will be served. Vegetarian choices will be included.

Annual Meeting: Members will hear a report of the board and have the opportunity to make a short statement or ask a question of the board.

Election: All candidates who wished to be on the ballots should have turned their 100-word statement in to any board member by now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t run for a board position! All positions, with the exception of the Treausurer are up for election this year. Currently, there is no one running for Corresponding Secretary/Squeals Editor. We need you!

Information on the candidates is here.

Ballots are available here! They must be printed, marked and received by us via U.S. postal service no later than October 2, 2013 to be counted in this election. Or they may be brought to the Annual Meeting.

During the meeting, candidates will be given the opportunity to make a short statement, and we will have a Q&A with them, as well.

Please note that the ballot is different than the candidate’s statement. Since the printing of the ballot, Maryann Jones withdrew from running for Vice President, and submitted a statement for director-at-large. If you wish to vote for her, you should write her in at the very bottom of the ballot, where there is no writing.

Single Pattern Challenge:

Our 2014 Single Pattern Challenge is a dress from the 1920’s known as the “One Hour Dress”. It was developed by Mary Brooks Picken, the Director of Instruction at the Woman’s Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences. Rather than a single pattern, it is a method of construction that can produce a wide variety of looks, all somewhat in the same style. With the right help, it is achievable by someone with beginning sewing skills or it can be taken to great extremes by an experienced seamstress.

We have had a year now to make our dresses. You can wear your dress to the meeting and let everyone ooh and ahh over you. Or, if you prefer you can just wear it in the fashion show. Don’t forget that the one hour dress is meant to be worn with a slip. It will look much better worn over one.

Remember, we are a group that encourages learning and not competition. Therefore, we will not be judging the dresses or assigning prizes. Your prize is the wonderful praise of your friends and co-guild members.

More information on the one-hour dress.

Fashion Show: Do you have a costume that you’d love to show off? We’d love to see it! Contact Patti Buckley at by September 23.
