Costumer’s Guild West and Costume College – We Stand in Solidarity

Costumer’s Guild West, as a collaborative of costume enthusiasts, adamantly decries both the murder of George Floyd and the racist system that enabled his murder. We stand in solidarity with those who are protesting across the country to demand both accountability and justice. We are unequivocal in our statement that Black Lives Matter. There can be no equality or progress for the rights of all until these racist systems have been overcome.

These events remind us that we have more work to do as a guild. Our Executive Board will strive to renew our commitment to making Costumer’s Guild West a more equitable organization. We call upon our members always to provide a safe and supportive environment for all. We welcome input and feedback from our members in making sure that we are both inclusive and sensitive on social media, the events we sponsor, and in our publications.

We pledge to combat racism in our own community and we commit ourselves to action and the fight for justice.

In solidarity,

Mela Hoyt-Heydon

President, Costumer’s Guild West
