Welcome to the Tour Department of your Costume College® weekend.  Taking a Tour with us is a great way to get to know other attendees. There’s plenty of time to chat on the bus while you travel.  If you don’t know a soul when you arrive, you will by the end of the tour.

Some tours are treated just like the “Limited Attendance” classes so check your scheduling and preferences very carefully, and get your requests in early!!!  (Like all “Limited Attendance” classes, tours are not transferable, and you cannot sell your spot.)  Please refer to your paperwork for further information regarding how to sign-up for the tours.

2019 Tour information:

These tours are treated just like Limited Attendance classes, so you will need to sign up if you are interested in attending. Please see the articles on how to sign up for Limited Attendance classes.

FIDM, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Tour

When:     Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Where:    Departs from the main hotel lobby near the Starbucks

The Friday FIDM tour is perennially popular, and Costume College members who attend this year will be treated to a private, behind-the- scenes tour of their study collection and the new Helen Larson collection exhibit. This year, in keeping with our Royal theme, you’ll see clothing and costumes worn by the kings and queens of the big screen!

We’ll have snacks and water aboard the tour bus. Please wear street clothes and comfortable shoes, and bring a notepad to record your inspirations. Note that attendance is limited to 30 people and that photography will be restricted on some parts of this tour.  Also, some parts of this tour are not wheelchair-accessible. If you have questions about accessibility, please contact Tours and Transportation at

The visit to FIDM itself will be approximately 2 hours long, not including travel time. You will have the opportunity to shop at the Scholarship Store, where fabric, trims, finished garments, and costume jewelry are available at discounted prices. Items for sale have been donated to FIDM by clothing and textile manufacturers, so selections will be random, but fabulous!

Please review the tour section of the Limited Attendance form before scheduling your Friday classes, so you don’t inadvertently double-book yourself.

The Fine Print

If unforeseen circumstances result in the cancellation of a venue, we reserve the right to substitute a location of equal interest to Costume College students. We will provide as much advance notification as possible. Tours not receiving a minimum number of students may be cancelled. If you have any questions, please contact the Tours and Transportation Coordinator, Mary Llewellyn Saunders, at
