CGW Workshop: Make a Gibson Girl Blouse

This workshop is being offered for fitting help and a push to get prepared for the Gibson Girl Golf day in March. The fabulous Mela Hoyt-Heydon will help fit an under-muslin for each student, demonstrate how to correct your paper pattern to fit, and how to assemble your blouse. In addition, she will demonstrate several ways to add period details, such as insertion lace, pintucks, appliques, and inner ties. And she will have examples and pictures of blouses and blouse details.

Location: Fullerton College Theater Department, 321 E Chapman Ave, Fullerton

Tickets: $20 for CGW and Sister Group members. This event is sold out!

Who is welcome: CGW and Sister Group Members. As we will be working all day, children will not be accommodated. This event is not available to non-members. Become a CGW member today!

What is included: Lunch and a beverage; pattern paper; muslin; a printed handout; a small kit to practice lace insertions, tucks and pin tucks; and the use of a sewing machine, cutting tables, irons. Blouse pattern is NOT included.

Student Brings: Undergarments to be worn under finished blouse, favorite Gibson Girl blouse pattern (see “recommended patterns” below), fashion fabric as called for in the pattern, 1 yard of lightweight cotton or cotton-blend fabric for an inner lining, and a basic sewing kit.

MelaTeacher: We are privileged to have as our instructor Mela Hoyt-Heydon, a union costume designer for the entertainment industry and is the head of the design department at Fullerton College. She is also part of the Smithsonian’s “American Research Expedition,” a member of the Costume Society of America and currently working on a book about men’s period tailoring. Additionally, Mela is one of Costume College’s most veteran teachers as well as a Dean Emeritus AND Dean for 2014.
